Return to LiveJournal

I have finally decided to make my glorious and triumphant return to LiveJournal. However, I no longer remember who something along the lines of half of the people on my friends list are, so I'm going to go through and unfriend some people. If you don't like me unfriending you, please reply to this, and tell me who the hell you are.

I was a day late on my renewal of one of my domains, meqaniqalmischief.com, so the moment the expiration came up, the registrar I was using decided to fucking give it to a squatter, who now won't sell it back for less than $100. >_< This can also be considered a notice that, if you'd be sending email to masque@meqaniqalmischief.com, you should go with the mechanicalmischief.com domain, instead.

I had a big sleep-deprivation-fueled rant thought out in my mind while taking a shower this morning, but since someone beat me to my biggest points, all I have to say is that I'm now looking for people to help design and get manufactured a waterproof laptop.

Humanity on another world

MageNet node A8 coming online.

Synchronizing with datastore prime...

Synchronizing...

Synchronizing...

Synchronized. Querying datastore local. Displaying article 'Humans and the world of Saed.'

"The Earth is the cradle of the mind, but we cannot live forever in a cradle". - Konstantin E. Tsiolkovsky

Humans may be the most recent known arrival to our glorious world of Saed, but thanks to their adaptability, breeding capacity, and sheer dumb luck, they're also the most populous of the sentient species. One reading MageNet articles will probably already know this, though, since all physiological and mental comparisons are to humans.

The history of humanity on Saed starts a mere fifty Core-Turnings ago, on the outer plate Gerin. It was there, in the New Mediterranean Sea, that the first of the three human colony ships made planetfall. That colony ship, as well as the two which come in the two following Turnings, were of the giant, sublight, enclosed-biome variety known as generational ships. As those who made first contact, a group of druun investigating the incursion near their own home plate, learned by interviewing those they met, the colony ships had been launched the equivalent of nearly one hundred Core-Turnings earlier, and also some fifty generations earlier. Yes, you read that right, the length of a generation for these humans is only two Turnings, and their average life expectancy is only ten.

Within a matter of ten turnings from the initial human planetfall, their population had increased ten fold, between that first colony, and the two colonies on Tran. Their population has been growing geometrically since then, and now borders on three billion. Of course, having the largest sentient population, and being so highly adaptable, humans are also the most common slaves, with some five percent of their population in slavery hereditarily, and another five percent taken first generation. At present, some seventy percent of the free human population of Saed still lives within fifteen gaim of the initial landing sites, showing the communal nature which makes them so easily enslaved, despite their almost druun-like intelligence.

Because so many who are reading this are human, and thus already know what has been said about them, following is also Terran/Saed conversion standards.

Time:
1 Core-Turning = 10.1 standard Terran years.
1 Gerin-Orbit = 27 standard Terran days.
1 Marn-Orbit = 4 standard Terran months.
1 Dron = 30 standard Terran minutes.
1 Drona = 1 standard Terran microfortnight.

Distance:
1 Gaim = 20 kilometers
1 Gaima = 200 meters
1 Ogaim = 2 meters
1 Ogaima = 2 centimeters

Mass:
1 Tain = 15 kilograms
1 Taina = 150 grams
1 Otain = 15 grams
1 Otaina = 1.5 grams

Aethereal interference detected in MageNet.

Compensating...

Compensation failed.

MageNet node A8 disconnecting.

(Editted because LJ decided to be fucking retarded and date this five days in the future for no apparent reason.)

Open call for game creating hobbyists

Hey, everybody out there in imaginary reader land, time for another post from me. This time, though, it's a request for assistance. I'm in need of people willing to work as a labor of love with me on a 3D RPG I'm working on. In particular, I need people who can help with modelling characters, texturing, and writing some of the details. Programming help wouldn't hurt, either. I'm also looking for feedback on some ideas for it, which I will be posting here in the future.

As for the theme of the game, it's going to be a hybrid of Sci-fi and fantasy elements, varying depending on just where in the world the characters are. Or, more accurately, depending on which plate the characters are on; the game is set on a world I've been working on for a while for a P&P RPG, which is not entirely unlike the world of Septerra Core. On this world, the further from the world's core one is, the less magic works, but the better technology works, and vice-versa.

I'll warn now that I do plan to have some sexual/quasisexual content of a potentially offensive nature, and by virtue of the background of the world, will likely include some other potentially offensive themes, so if you're uncomfortable with that, you may wish not to offer your help. Otherwise, please email me, at masque@meqaniqalmischief.com

Hey, if anyone out there is planning on going to Burning Man, and would like to help a Burning Man virgin get there, I'm willing to split transportation costs from the Vegas airport. (Or gas, lodging, etc, if you're driving from somewhere and don't mind making a stop in central WA to pick me up.) Maybe it's a little early to be planning this, but I want to make *damn* sure that I'll have the time off, and will be able to make it there. It'd suck if I made it as far as Vegas, then didn't make it to Burning Man. (Not unlike my attempt to make Conifur NW last year.)

Grr. Evil LJ.

For my first post in my live journal, I will bitch and whine.

My first complaint; passwords. Livejournal won't let me use my normal password, because it's based on a dictionary word. It just so happens, though, that it's actually two words, one ten letters long, one nine letter long, separated by a # sign. And, if you care to know, the nine letter word is one which doesn't occur in any normal dictionary. (Mainly because it's spelled horribly wrong.) So instead, I'm using a randomly generated string which could be broken by a decent brute force cracker in a much shorter period.

Next; Jesus of Borg really destroys their credibility. Of course, then again, how much credibility does anyone claiming that all these hostile aliens are visitting us but not fighting amongst one another, despite the fact that from the information provided, they most likely would be, have?
Oh, and just as a note, I love that they started their main site with the following quote: "And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned -- 2 Thessalonians 2:11-12"

Finally, is my bitching about all animated shows being automatically classified as children's. I was flipping through the onscreen guide for my digital cable, and found the following marked as children's shows: Serial Experiments Lain, Dual!, Silent Mobius, Crest of the Stars, and Betterman. I don't expect that any of them are children's shows, since they were all from Anime Unleashed on TechTV, but I know that at least Lain isn't, since it's the only one I've seen. This really annoys me, not because of some fear of being considered immature (Yeah, right. Like that's a problem for someone who's bought in excess of $100 worth of plushies on a single trip to Wal Mart.) but because most parents assume that all the shows labelled children's are good entertainment for young children, and I doubt that most parents would want their kids watching a show about a digital goddess and an afterlife in the 'net. Not to mention the drug use, suicides, etc.
